Condolences
Dr. Alexander Ruderman, Associate Professor of our School of Engineering and Digital Sciences, passed away on December 21st from an apparent heart attack while quarantined in a hotel in Israel.
Alexander Ruderman received the Ph.D. degree in Electromechanical Engineering in 1987 from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute, Leningrad, Russia. He joined Nazarbayev University as an Associate Professor in 2013, after a long and successful career in Israel having served as Research Scientist with the Intel Microprocessor Development Center; as Chief Scientist with Elmo Motion Control; and as Adjunct Professor at several universities.
He was one of the founding faculty members of our Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, where he contributed significantly to the development of the Power Engineering specialization. He established and led the Power Electronics Research Laboratory, where he conducted internationally recognized research on multilevel voltage/current converters and natural balancing mechanisms in power systems. He co-authored more than 50 international top journal and conference publications.
Dr. Ruderman was a dear friend to many of us and he brought kindness and generosity to everything that he did. His commitment to NU was sincere and his seven years in our midst were marked by exceptional service to his students, to his Department, and to the technological development of Kazakhstan. He will most certainly be missed by our entire community.
