Course description

The  course  will  establish  the  principles  of  flow  and  heat  transfer  in gas/liquid  systems  and  the  principles  of  design  methods.    The  course aims  the  application  of  the  appropriate  basic  principles,  engineering models  and  equations  of  multi-phase  systems  to  the  analysis  of  the industrial problems, particularly, in oil & gas technologies. Also this course implies modeling of gas/liquid flow with aid of multiphase flow simulator.

Course Pre-Requisites: CHME300, CHME201

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Discriminate flow pattern and hydraulic resistance for typical gas-liquid flows
  2. Compare the basic principles, engineering models and equations of gas-liquid flows to apply the most relevant for a given situation.
  3. Simulate the gas/liquid system with aid of multiphase flow simulator.
  4. Perform basic calculations on pipelines and wellbores.

Course Outline

In this course students will learn about: separated flow; vertical upward flow; horizontal flow; mechanistic multiphase models; bubbly and plug flow; annular flow and flooding; multiphase flow in pipes and pipe fittings; heat transfer with multiphase flow, including boilers and condensers.
