Nazarbayev University team won 3 medals in the International Mathematics Competition for University Students 2020

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Competition were held virtually from 25 to 30 July 2020. The Nazarbayev University team was represented by 5 students: Bakdauren Narbayev, Bakytzhan Kurmanbek, Nartay Aikyn, Izat Khamiyev and Kadirbek Sharau. Izat and Kadirbek are students at the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences.

Bakdauren Narbaev and Izat Khamdiyev were awarded silver medals, Bakytzhan Kurmanbek won a bronze medal, Nartai Aikyn and Kadirbek Sharau were awarded Honorable mentions. The team leader was Bakhytbek Zhumanov.

The NU Math Team have been participating in the international math Olympiad since 2012. The team listed in the top-44 universities of the IMC 2020 ranking, which is nearby ranking of Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), and ahead of result of University of Warwick (UK), etc. NU Team ranked #42 in 2019 and #67 in 2018.

The International Mathematics Competition (IMC) has been held annually since 1994. Since the beginning of the Competition, more than 200 universities from 65 countries have taken part in it. The main organizers are the University College London and American University in Bulgaria.
