Farewell to Visiting Professor Reza Montazami
A bittersweet goodbye and deep gratitude to Professor Reza Montazami after an incredibly fruitful six month with him at NU SEDS.
Professor Reza Montazami is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Iowa State University, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. His research interests include functional materials, electronic and ionic polymers, and soft electronics and bioelectronics. He has over 15 years of experience studying functional polymers and mentoring students in his research group. With his team, he has published over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles. Many of which have been highlighted by the international media including BBC, CBS, NBC, Forbes, and Scientific America.
At the MAE department at NU SEDS, he worked as a Visiting Professor during the spring 2022 semester. He integrated very well at NU environment, made an excellent contribution to the university by collaboration with many Faculty members across the university. Reza collaborated as co-investigator in two Collaborative Research Proposals. He has successfully published a journal paper with NU affiliation, which can be found by clicking on the link below.
In addition, an important life achievement of Professor Reza is the immense respect of colleagues and students, the universal recognition of his achievements in science. The Head of Mechanical and Aerospace Department at NU SEDS, Professor Essam Shehab in his reflections noted such qualities of Reza Montazami as hard-worker, self-motivation, and the abilities to use his own initiative and work as member of a team.
A teaching assistant Aibek Shokayev noted his contribution to MAE, also expressed his hope for further cooperation.
«It was a big pleasure to work under the guidance of Professor Montazami last semester. Professor has shown himself not only as an expert in his scientific field, but also as an excellent educator who does everything possible to improve the educational process. I am sure that our students appreciated all the efforts made by Professor Montazami. I am pleased that our department is able to attract professors with extensive experience from prestigious universities and look forward to further cooperation»-, said Aibek Shokayev.
A graduated student Beibit Zharylkassyn who took course from Professor Reza Montazami, expressed appreciation for his efforts and support.
«It was our first experience of studying course from visiting Professor and we enjoyed his teaching method. Apart from engineer curriculum, Professor Reza gave us new research perspective on soft materials. Thank you for being supportive during class and office hours! We learned a lot and benefited from your course»,-said Beibit Zharylkassyn.
It was really a great pleasure having Professor Reza in our university as a visiting Professor during his 6-month sabbatical leave. He is the first sabbatical Professor at NU. The MAE department at NU SEDS sad that their time with Professor Reza Montazami has only been a quarter but grateful for his contribution and wishes him the best of luck in the next step of his career!
